On October 10, 2011, we received an email from someone reporting 15-20 horses underfed in a pasture. The person had complained to several rescue and humane organizations and hadn't been able to get anyone to come investigate the situation. SHARE was able to send an investigator that week who confirmed there were about 20-30 stallions, mares, young horses, and foals on the property, all in poor condition.

After negotiation with the owner, they agreed to relinquish 10 of the young horses and stallions to SHARE. We had agreed to take four thin Trakehner horses the week before, and also picked up an older standardbred broodmare abandoned at the local sale barn, so we needed to find alternate placements for these horses. We were able to get Crosswinds to take two horses, and were able to locate foster homes for the remaining eight horses. One foster home will only be able to keep these until the weather gets bad, so we need additional fosters immediately.

THIS is why SHARE exists. We are the last opportunity for many of our rescues. These horses could not have survived for long without intervention, especially with winter coming soon. We need foster homes for our healthy horses so we can take on these emergency cases, or welcome those willing to take on a project in rehabbing these severe cases.
